Whitfield
was converted in 1984 from a barn to a modern, comfortable and well equipped
house. It is situated 1 mile west of Askrigg and a mile north of Bainbridge,
in Upper Wensleydale, off the beaten track but within walking distance of several pubs and restaurants.
The house is situated at 950ft/285m above sea level, with spectacular uninterrupted views of the site of the Roman Fort at Bainbridge and the Roman road to the west up on Wether Fell, and is surrounded by peaceful meadows with nearby waterfalls of Mill Gill and high fell walks, or a mile to the River Ure for fishing for trout and grayling. From the end of March we are surrounded by playful lambs, and from mid May by cows grazing in the meadows.
All rooms face south with panoramic views over the dale, fells and towards Semerwater.

Our border collies, Sally and Molly
We have used common sense, avoided waste and saved money for many years - like true Yorkshire people!
We are conscious of our carbon foot print, and have for years recycled paper, glass, plastic, and composted waste food and garden refuse. We use low energy bulbs, put clean towels out when guests request them, have a solar panel for hot water, collect rain water for watering the plants and washing the car. We only use the car when we have several ports of call - not just to collect the daily paper! These practices keep down our costs and give our guests value for money.
