Harriet's
Cottage which sleeps four, is situated next to Lilac
Cottage, in an elevated position in the centre of Muker, but in a secluded
situation above the other properties and all rooms enjoy delightful views
of the dale to the South.
The
traditional cottage garden overlooks the fells, has seats and a BBQ.
A path leads down to the shop and local pub. This is a place to unwind and
re-charge your batteries.
The Cottage has been completely restored to a very high standard, with full oil-fired central heating with individually controlled radiators in each room, double glazing throughout, as well as maintaining many original features of pine beams and doors, traditional décor and furnishings, as well as mementoes of the late owner, Harriet.
The
house consists of a stone flagged entrance hall with pine clad walls, leading
in to a cosy relaxing sitting room with open fire, pine features, sofa
and comfy chairs, TV and video, high-fi and telephone for outgoing calls.
(Mobiles do not work in Swaledale).
The kitchen with its old pine floor, pine dresser and pegged rugs, is well equipped with modern storage cupboards, an electric cooker with extractor fan, fridge, microwave and automatic washer. A pine dining table and chairs makes this a cosy place to eat, or relax in the wing chair absorbing the view.
At the rear of the kitchen is a lobby for coats and boots, and a back door leading to the parking area.
Upstairs
is a double bedroom with a pine window seat. The double bed has a hand
stitched quilt and is traditionally furnished. The twin room has a
Victorian satinwood bedroom suite.
The bathroom is at the back of the house, and has a ceramic tiled floor, white suite, with electric shower.
A utility room outside has a freezer and coin operated tumble dryer. This is a secure store suitable for cycles.
£320 - £475 per week, according to season.
Muker is a small dales village, popular as a walking base and has a village shop and post-office, craft shop, hand knitted woollen shop, cafe and pub for bar meals. The village has a well known silver band and in early September has a sheep show with fell races.
Nearby villages with places to eat are at Thwaite, Gunnerside and Reeth and
Tan Hill at over 1700ft - the highest pub in England.
The area has a wealth of riverside and high fell walks and is not far from
the Pennine Way. The nearest market town is Hawes, only 7 miles over the Buttertubs
Pass to the South, and Leyburn and Richmond to the East.
